CLEARWATER — John Graziano's father said he is outraged by statements made by the Bollea family in conversations taped by the Pinellas County Jail.

Ed Graziano, whose son was critically injured in Nick Bollea's Aug. 26 car crash, said the release of the tapes has caused his family much pain and he wants to set the record straight.

Graziano said he was especially disturbed by a conversation between Nick Bollea, 17, the son of famous wrestler Hulk Hogan, and his mother, Linda.

During their talk, Linda Bollea says she knew John better than his own mother did.

"She's not sad. She's just acting angry like she just wants the money," Linda Bollea said of John's mother, Debbie Graziano. "John never meant anything to her or Ed. It's just sad because I really appreciated you kids, and I just miss John. I miss you, too. She's not suffering. I am. I have the loss."

Ed Graziano said he found those comments offensive.

"My wife lives for her children, and nobody knew my son better than my wife did," he said. "My wife is the best mother there is in the world."

The conversation was included in the 149 files of taped phone conversations between Nick Bollea and his family made available by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office last week.

The recordings were released after a public records request from a media organization, said Marianne Pasha, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

But Bollea's attorney, Kevin Hayslett, said the release of the tapes was inappropriate and he is "looking into taking the appropriate actions."

"I've never ever heard of any Sheriff's Office releasing post-conviction conversations between a child and his parents," Hayslett said.

John Graziano, 23, suffered a major brain injury after Bollea lost control of his Toyota Supra and crashed into a palm tree near downtown Clearwater. He remains in a semiconscious state at James A. Haley VA Medical Center.

Bollea is serving an eight-month sentence at the Pinellas County Jail after pleading no contest to a charge of reckless driving with serious bodily injury.

Since the release of the jail recordings last week, portions have been posted on Internet sites and other media outlets.

Ed Graziano said some of the conversations seem to contradict the sad and remorseful image Nick Bollea projected during his sentencing hearing.

In one tape, Nick Bollea told his father that John was "a negative person."

Bollea also asked his father to line up a reality television show about him getting out of jail and back on his feet.

"I want to do it where I'll make the most money," he said.

Hulk Hogan said he'd produce the show and make his son an owner.

"The reason he was put in jail is to think about what he did to my son," Ed Graziano said. "That's the last thought on his mind."

these tapes are repulsive...no, the hogan's are.I'm most outraged by the one between Nick & his dad where they are implying that the victim somehow deserved this tragedy - that he was "negative" and this must be God's punishment. What a joke.

The Beverly Hillbillies are now The Belleair Bolleas... updated, sun-baked and vulgar. Celebrities of the idiocracy.
by Jason May 28, 2008 10:36 AM
I just listened to exepts of the "scathing" tapes. Whats the big deal. They called the friend in the hospital "negative", are we really in that slow of a news cycle where we're going to sell this as big news. Rediculous
by Mercie May 28, 2008 10:36 AM
Enough is enough! The tapes shouldn't have been released. Someone should lose their job! Both boys were at fault. Both families are grieving and both moms are good. Ed, you need to get a life and stop looking for an easy ride! You are a disgrace.
by Linda May 28, 2008 10:36 AM
Ok Two words. Trailer trash. Listen to the father make excuses and you know where Nick is coming from. My son was raised to accept consequences. Nick was not. You can't expect any more from these people.
by Sim May 28, 2008 10:36 AM
It doesnt matter that some think the tapes arent public record. The reality is that they are. The Hogan's appear to be the worst parents in the world.
by Selena May 28, 2008 10:36 AM
I don't understand how Nick was allowed to keep his license after so many "significant" speeding tickets...I struggle with how the Bolleas are trying to protect their son at all costs, not reinforcing the fact that Nick destroyed so many lives.
by Nick May 28, 2008 7:20 AM
First of all, Why is this news? and secondly, the Bolleas should be ashamed of themselves.
by Jo May 28, 2008 7:20 AM
Nick made a mistake. Fine. He's paying for it. John, a military trained war veteran also has some responsibility for his circumstance. He was trained to observe safety procedures. His seat belt would have saved him like Nick's did. Seat Belts Work!
by Robbie May 28, 2008 7:19 AM
One of saddest things in this situation is that Nicks career is just going to sky-rocket because he crippled someone for life. I agree with that nick should have to care for him for at least a year after jail. As for the rest of them, TRAILOR TRASH
by Sharon May 28, 2008 7:19 AM
There was a time when My family and I were big fans of Hulk Hogan and we loved watching their reality show. After what Nick did to John and the way Hulk and his whole family have acted, we just wish they would get lost. They are vert low class.
by rip May 28, 2008 7:19 AM
Convicted criminals have no rights. That punk should be doing time in a real prison. Jail tapes are released to the media all of the time. Does John Gotti ring a bell? BTW-lose the do-rag hulk we all know you're BALD. No hair or manhood, funny stuff
by Steve May 28, 2008 7:19 AM
Nick, your mommy missed having you at the beach with her this weekend, it was so lonely for her without you and Brooke, your dad loves to put oil on your back side. Sick family!
by Jessica May 28, 2008 7:19 AM
Now the entire world gets to see exactly what the people of Clearwater have seen for years. The Bollea's are a disgrace to our community. Nick's actions have had dire consequences. You would think he would grow up and realize the pain he has caused.
by marybeth May 28, 2008 7:18 AM
This is totally irresponsible reporting by SP Times. Those conversations should be private. I don't care if he is in jail. You're invading his privacy and that of his parents. I have never seen this done anywhere else. Disgusting
by b;g May 28, 2008 7:18 AM
Maybe Channel 8 should investigate and see who took the money for the release of these tapes!! There is so little decency or compassion left in this world and both of these young men are victims.
by McBeth May 28, 2008 7:18 AM
Mr.and Mrs. Bollea should be in jail. After all, they are the ones who encouraged their son to get into racing and provided him with the supped up Supra. Nick is just a dumb kid that was allowed to believe that racing on public streets is cool.
by Law Guy May 28, 2008 7:18 AM
I don't think it's illegal to record these calls and that's why I encourage you to buy my new CD entitled "Spoiled Kids Gone Wild!" Thank you. I'll be back later with my 800 number.
by Judy Justice May 28, 2008 7:17 AM
I heard from a bailiff that the judge was really mad about Hulk wearing a hat/dew rag in the court room. These people have no clue about society's rules. Too bad they had to learn on the back of their kid. Low lives, all of them.
by Stefani May 28, 2008 7:17 AM
I am sickened by the behavior of the Bollea family in this situation, absolutely sickened by these people. .
by Robbie May 28, 2008 7:17 AM
One of saddest things in this situation is that Nicks career is just going to sky-rocket because he crippled someone for life. I agree with that nick should have to care for him for at least a year after jail. As for the rest of them, TRAILOR TRASH
by Yaeger Jackson May 28, 2008 7:16 AM
I think it is very bad taste for the Pinellas County Jail to release this personal of information to the media, how much money was paid out for this offer, and what dialect of the news media was interested in this?
by CTK May 28, 2008 7:16 AM
By law, only 3 relationship conversations are privileged. Attny/clien, clergy/pentinent, and husband/wife. Mother and son is not one of those. Criminal Law and Procedures, Scheb & Scheb, 5th Edition, CH 18 Pg 493 - Privileged Communications
by rs May 28, 2008 7:16 AM
The Bollea recordings are disgusting. Nick got 8 months in county jail for bad decisions resulting in critically injuring another human being. They have the nerve to make it seem like Nick's the victim. That shows what the Bollea's are really like
by chris May 28, 2008 7:15 AM
i bet the graziano's LOVED their son hangin out with rich , famous folk. karma is CRAZY stuff.
by Wrestler Dave May 28, 2008 7:14 AM
Dang, I thought wrestlers were supposed to be smart. Dang. Dang dang. Another myth shattered. I thought Hulk was different.
by Bonnie May 28, 2008 7:14 AM
I thought Hogan Knew Best? What happened here, Hulk? You teach your kid NO values, put him in a high powered car, get him liquored up, show up to court looking like a gang member, and then act surprised that he's in jail. Email me for a clue, dude.
by Mike May 28, 2008 7:14 AM
Linda Linda Linda.... they tape those phone calls. NOW do you understand what the rest of us in the REAL world already knew? Sheesh.... if you spent more time in real reality and not unreal reality, you would know these things.
by ben May 28, 2008 7:13 AM
I love all you haters on here. A tragic ending to a frienship. Both families need to move on. John's own family was never around. Bollea's took him as their own child.
by Mort May 28, 2008 7:13 AM
Remember when Hulk went to court to keep his illegal high number of animals and argued that he was above the law because he owned so many houses? That's when we all learned that this family thinks they can live above the law. Waah waaaaah.
by Nick May 28, 2008 7:13 AM
Money doesn't buy class OR brains. Hulk thought he could buy everything but now is learning that he should have spent more time teaching BOTH of his kids how to drive. One thing for sure: Hillbillies have never lived in a bigger house.
by Lauren May 28, 2008 7:13 AM
How about everyone lay off the Bolleas. Show me one set of parents who are perfect, and I'll show you they are far from it. Nick is serving his time. Remember, no one forced John into that car or withheld his seatbelt from him. That was his choice.
by Donna May 27, 2008 8:54 PM
"The recordings were released after a public records request from a media organization." This is not reporting this is creating the news. Every reader should be outraged. Just REPORT on current events and stop causing additional harm.
by Jamie May 27, 2008 7:00 PM
Mercenary, obscene, horrible people, the Bolleas. But I knew that before. What didn't they understand about "This phone call could be recorded"?
by CHARLOTTE May 27, 2008 7:00 PM
