'09 property tax rate

Southwest Florida Water Management District has announced the 2009 millage rate for the Withlacoochee River and Coastal River Basin Boards:

The Withlacoochee River Basin Board, which covers areas in Hernando, Pasco, Sumter, Citrus, Marion and Levy counties, will be 0.2308 mill, which is the same as the current fiscal year. An owner of a home worth $125,000, with a $50,000 homestead exemption, would be taxed $17.31 by the basin board.

The millage rate for the Coastal Rivers Basin Board, which covers portions of Hernando, Pasco and Citrus counties, will be 0.1885 mill, which is the same as the current fiscal year. For an owner of a $125,000 home (with the $50,000 homestead exemption), the basin board tax will be $14.14.

Party with veterans at dinner and dance

The Nature Coast Korean War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 174 will host a 55th anniversary of the cease-fire that ended the fight in Korea on Sept. 6 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive.

Tickets are $20, which includes a buffet dinner, cash bar, Korean dance show, door prizes and dance music provided by Northern Sounds, a five-piece band.

Hernando High class to celebrate 10 years

Members of the Hernando High School Class of 1998 will celebrate their 10-year reunion Sept. 12-13.

A gathering will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at Coney Island Drive Inn, 1112 E Jefferson St. A formal event will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Sept. 13 at Brooksville Golf and Country Club at Majestic Oaks, 23446 Links Drive. Tickets are $60.

Yacht club to host dinner and dance

The Hernando Beach Yacht Club will host a "Dancing with the Stars" dinner and dance Sept. 6 at the club, 4163 Shoal Line Blvd.

The bar will open for cocktail hour at 5 p.m. and will include hors d'oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Larry Greer will provide music for dancing from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Dinner will include carved roast beef, salad, baked potato, vegetable and dessert.

Dress is casual and seating is reserved. Tickets are limited and must be purchased by Sept. 3. The cost is $20 per person and can be purchased at the club between 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, or by calling Dick Weichman at (352) 596-3805.
