Baptism in the Jordan

Christian pilgrims dressed in white baptismal robes take part in a group baptism Wednesday in the waters of the Jordan River at Yardenit, in the Galilee region of northern Israel. An estimated 100,000 Christians make the pilgrimage to the Holy Land each year, many choosing to take part in the sacred baptism ritual at Yardenit. The baptismal site commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist.
