ST. PETERSBURG—BayWalk is no more. The new name for the storied downtown shopping plaza is The Shops at St. Pete. Yep, that's it," confirmed Bill Edwards, who bought the property for $5.2 million in September. The logo features clean type with a double monogram of two curvaceous letter Ss for "shops" and "St. Pete." The first advertisement shows the logo in white and light mint green but expect to see it in a variety of color combinations. "We're going to play with that a lot," Edwards said. He had planned to unveil the name and details about several of the new tenants the St. Petersburg City Council meeting Thursday but that has been postponed to mid-September, he said. A contract for celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian to open a restaurant and lounge at The Shops at St. Pete is close to being inked. "He'll be out this month and hopefully we'll get to a definitive agreement," said Edwards. "We're close to it."
