PHSC hosts open houses at campuses

Pasco-Hernando State College will host open houses at each of its five campuses in April. High school seniors who are undecided on college plans, and any prospective students seeking higher education opportunities at PHSC are welcome to attend one of the events.

• 5 to 7 p.m. April 3, North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd., north of Brooksville (in front of Building A).

• 5 to 7 p.m. April 4, East Campus, 36727 Blanton Road, Dade City (in A240).

• 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 5, Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch, 2727 Mansfield Blvd., Wesley Chapel (in Conference Center, B303).

• 5 to 7 p.m. April 10, West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey (in Conference Center, R151).

• 5 to 7 p.m. April 12, Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court, Spring Hill (in Conference Center, B105).

Handbell concert offered at 2 venues

The Suncoast Bronze Ringers will present "Ring Around the World," a globe-trotting musical tour at two locations:

• 3 p.m. April 8 at Hudson First United Methodist Church, 13123 U.S. 19, Hudson.

• 3 p.m. April 15 at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs, 4651 Little Road, New Port Richey.

The Suncoast Bronze Ringers is a handbell ensemble with members hailing from areas throughout the Tampa Bay area. The concert will include familiar traditional tunes and contemporary tunes. Tax office opens on Saturdays to residents

Starting April 7, the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office will offer Saturday services to Pasco County residents from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Gulf Harbors and Wesley Chapel offices. Staff will serve Pasco residents only. All customers, including those who reside outside the county, can visit any of the five Pasco County tax offices from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Craft and bake sale set for April 6-7

Women’s chorus celebrates 70 years

Thursday Musicale, a women’s choral group, will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a concert at 2 p.m. April 19 in Howard Hall at Hudson First United Methodist Church, 13123 U.S. 19. Guest performers include John Timpanelli and his student, Theresa Smith. Following the passing of long-time conductor Jim Urbanski and his wife, Ruth Urbanski, long-time accompanist, the group is now led by new conductor Bruce Galbraith. Animal Services host Adopt-A-Thon

Pasco County Animal Services will host a Spring Adopt-A-Thon from noon to 6:30 p.m. March 31 at the shelter, 19640 Dogpatch Lane. Adoption fees will be waived on all dogs over 25 pounds and older than 6 months. All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm tested. New Silver Sneakers program offered

A Silver Sneakers Strength and Balance Program is offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. Fridays at the Groves Golf and Country Club (in the ballroom), 7924 Melogold Circle. These low-impact classes for men and women are designed to help improve flexibility and balance, to prevent falls and broken hips. Strength exercises may include lifting handheld weights, using tubing and one’s own body resistance and core muscles. The classes are free to Silver Sneakers members. Nonmembers pay $5 per class. Church thrift shop offers half-off sale

The Thrift Shop at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5326 Charles St., will hold a half-price sale April 2-7. Also, during the week of April 16, the shop will offer buy-one-get-one-free on ladies’ and men’s pants. The shop is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Library to host fort-building family event

A Family Fort Night will be provided from 4:30 to 7 p.m. April 13 at the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and pillows, grab some library books and build a fort, then enjoy time reading. Church dinner to feature prime rib

A social dinner will be offered from 4:45 to 6 p.m. April 6 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 5340 High St. Dinner includes prime rib, baked potato, veggie medley, salad, rolls, dessert and drinks. Suncoast Relay for Life set for April 13-14

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of the Suncoast will be April 13-14 at Mitchell High School, 2323 Little Road. The event combines the traditional Relays that were held at Gulf, Mitchell and Lutz high schools. The event kicks off with a survivor dinner at 4:30 p.m. April 13, with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Opening ceremonies emcee is Ann Kelly from 105.5 the DUV radio station. The event continues throughout the night until the afternoon of April 14. There will be food, games, an inflatable golf course and other inflatables, dunk tank, ghost busters, themed laps, entertainment and a variety of activities for all ages. Tax problems? Assistance is available

United Way of Pasco County will offer a Tax Problem Solving Day with the Taxpayer Advocate Service from noon to 4:30 p.m. April 13 at a location to be determined. The purpose is to assist practitioners and taxpayers with tax problems that have not been able to be resolved with the IRS, with a goal to provide one-on-one guidance and direction on next steps. For those with tax problems who meet the criteria, a case advocate will be assigned to work toward resolution. The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service to help taxpayers and protect taxpayers’ rights. The service is free. School to host 1920s-style gala event

The Action Committee of Bishop Larkin Catholic School will host its Great Gatsby Gala from 6 to 11 p.m. April 14 at the Columbia Event Center, 5850 KofC Drive. Leadership Pasco hosts ‘Taste of Pasco’

The 2018 Leadership Pasco class will host a Taste of Pasco fundraising event with Sips and Sounds, to benefit Metropolitan Ministries. Pasco Park Walk set for Crews Lake Park

Pasco County Animal Services and Pasco County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will host the next Pasco Park Walk at 9 a.m. April 7 at Crews Lake Wilderness Park, 16739 Crews Lake Drive, Shelter 4. Those walking can bring pets, or be paired up with one from Pasco County Animal Services. The walk will be set up in the style of a pack walk. Participants are encouraged to meet and see the adoptable pets at Animal Services, and to consider adoption. Those bringing pets must have their dogs on a secure 6-foot leash with collar (no retractable/flexi leads); no prong or electronic collars, one pet per handler, bring poop bags, bring water for their own pet, and no face-to-face contact for pets. Golf outing to benefit Good Samaritan Clinic

The Good Samaritan Clinic will host its annual golf outing at 8 a.m. April 7 at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club, 3535 Trophy Road. The cost is $400 per team, which includes breakfast, range balls, golf for four players, lunch, prizes and beer provided by Escape Brewery. Sponsorships are available. Funds raised will benefit the Good Samaritan Health Clinic of Pasco, a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that provides medical and dental services free to eligible Pasco residents. Bowlers, sponsors needed for two events

Two bowling benefits are planned for April 14 at Pin Chasers, 6816 Gall Blvd.:

• Big Brothers Big Sisters ‘Bowl for Kids Sake’ will be from noon to 2 p.m. Teams of five or six members can enter, with each bowler raising funds/sponsorships. The event will include two games of bowling (shoes and balls included), a Bowl For Kids’ Sake T-shirt, food, drinks and chances to win door prizes. Event to benefit ACS Relay for Life

A "Shatter Cancer" Relay for Life fundraising event, hosted by the K&K Glass All-Stars, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 7 at K&K Glass, 5938 Seventh St. There will be food and entertainment while raising funds for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
