Pinellas County opens cold-weather homeless shelters

Pinellas County will open its "cold night shelters" for the homeless on Wednesday and Thursday. The shelters open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and close the following morning at approximately 6 a.m. Shelter guests are provided a hot evening meal and breakfast the following morning. Emergency shelters open when the temperatures dip below 40 degrees, said Cliff Smith, manager of veterans, social and homeless services for the city of St. Petersburg. The county will determine whether the shelters will remain open Friday based on the temperature. Families with children are asked to call 211 to make arrangements to be placed in a family shelter.

The following locations serve as shelters for adults:

Clearwater

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 110 S Fort Harrison Ave., (727) 446-3001, capacity 110. This shelter opens at 5 p.m.

St. Petersburg

Northwest Presbyterian Church. 6330 54th Ave. N, (727) 544-4551, capacity 75.

The Turning Point, 1810 Fifth Ave. N, (727) 823-7811, capacity 25.

Salvation Army, 1400 Fourth St. S, (727) 822-4954, capacity: 50.

My Place in Recovery, 1655 16th St. S, capacity 20.

Pinellas Park

Boys and Girls Club of the Suncoast in Pinellas Park, 7790 61st St. N, (727) 547-5437, capacity 150.

Tarpon Springs

First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs, 501 E Tarpon Ave., (727) 937-3271, capacity 40.
