Abandoned young otter needs a new name

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is asking the public to help name the newest member of its North American river otter family.

The female otter was rescued by the aquarium's staff on Jan. 23 at the Clearwater Executive Golf Course. The otter was found lethargic and dehydrated, abandoned by her mother. Now she is energetic and doing well. The aquarium is requesting a donation of $20 for each name submission. All funds will go toward helping the otter family. The naming contest will be open until March 22. The winner will be invited to the aquarium for an official naming ceremony. To submit a name, go to the aquarium's Web site at and click on the "Name Our Otter" link or call (727) 441-1790, ext. 222.
