Senior center has its grand opening Tuesday

The city's new senior center will hold its grand opening Tuesday afternoon. The Aging Well Center, built inside the Long Center recreation complex at 1501 N Belcher Road, will host programs for residents 55 and older — health and wellness, education, recreation and socialization. Festivities will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and will include refreshments and demonstrations of cutting-edge technology geared toward mature adults, including Nintendo Wii, Skype and digital health monitoring equipment. Mayor Frank Hibbard and Florida's secretary of Elder Affairs will speak. The center will be open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays.

Palm harbor

Donate June 26 at library blood drive

The Palm Harbor Library, 2330 Nebraska Ave., will be holding a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 26. Those who donate will receive a beach towel, a wellness checkup and a cholesterol screening. If you donate twice between May and August, you will be entered into a drawing to win a Carnival Cruise. You must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and bring an ID. For information, visit fbsdonor.org.

Adopt a cat during the month of June

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. SPCA Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo, has adoption specials for homeless kittens and cats waiting for their forever homes. Specials include the Cat Combo, which is one adult cat, carrier and blanket for $50, and the Kitten Combo, which is a kitten under one year old, the carrier and blanket for $60.
