GOWERS CORNER — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating whether alcohol might have played a role in a Thursday collision that critically injured four people.

According to FHP, Rose Mary Daniel, 59, of New Port Richey, was driving her 1994 Chevy Blazer south on Kent Grove Road about 4 p.m. Thursday when she rear-ended a 1993 Pontiac Firebird. It is unclear what caused the left front of the Blazer to hit the right rear of the Firebird, but the impact sent both vehicles spinning off the road.

Firebird driver Kenneth Lester Stewart, 36, and passenger Russell Monin, 23, both of Spring Hill, were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital. A second passenger, Nancy Morgan, 22, of Valrico, was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

Daniel, the Blazer driver, was also taken to Tampa General.

According to the FHP report, tests are pending to determine whether either driver might have been impaired by alcohol.
