Armed robbery suspect caught in traffic stop

An 18-year-old Hudson man was arrested early Sunday after being accused of pulling the trigger of a shotgun while robbing a couple outside of a pharmacy in Port Richey. William Walter Adamczak approached a man and his girlfriend as they left a pharmacy at U.S. 19 and Coventry Drive in Port Richey about 1 p.m. Saturday, a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report said. Adamczak is accused of threatening the couple with a shotgun and demanding the man hand over some pills. When the man refused, Adamczak pointed the shotgun at him and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun didn't go off, deputies said. Deputies said Adamczak then struck the man in the head with the butt of the gun and took a bag of pills valued at about $500, containing drugs such as Roxycodone, Soma and Xanax. The attacker fled. The victim needed 16 stitches on the right side of his head. Saturday night, deputies stopped a white Dodge pickup truck that was reportedly being used in several local armed robberies. The truck's driver, Adamczak, was arrested for not having a valid license. Adamczak later confessed to the robberies, deputies said. He was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery with a firearm. As of Sunday evening, he remained at the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of bail totaling $300,150.

Flapjack Festival at the fairgrounds

Heaps of hotcakes await visitors to this weekend's Flapjack Festival, held this year at a new location: the Pasco County Fairgrounds. The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce will serve free pancakes from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a flapjack parade at 11 a.m. and a flapjack-eating contest at 3 p.m. The fundraiser for community groups also features arts and crafts, entertainment, a pageant and plenty of non-pancake foods. The carnival rides will be open from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The fairgrounds are at 36722 State Road 52 in Dade City.
