WEEKI WACHEE

State park admission now 50 percent less

Admission to Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is being cut in half for adults and even more for children. The Florida Park Service has announced that as of July 1, adult admission will drop from $26.57 to $13; and from $18.05 to $5 for children. The reductions are to put the park's admission costs in line with other state parks. Fees are being increased at other state parks on July 1. For more information, go to www.floridastateparks.org.

DISTRICTWIDE

Swiftmud sets millage at 0.2308

The Southwest Florida Water Management District's Withlacoochee River Basin Board adopted its proposed fiscal year 2010 millage rate of 0.2308 mil, the same as the current fiscal year. The Coastal Rivers Basin Board covers portions of Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Sumter, Marion and Levy counties. This millage rate, combined with a reduction in taxable property values as estimated by county property appraisers, will result in an estimated 8.42 percent decrease in ad valorem property tax revenue from 2009. For the owner of a $150,000 home with a $50,000 homestead exemption, the Basin Board tax would be $23.08. The district's Governing Board is expected to adopt proposed millage rates for the General Fund and the Basin Boards on July 28.
