County fire gets out of control across 40 acres

Firefighters were battling to contain a brush fire sparked Wednesday by a controlled burn of 10 acres of Mobbly Bayou Preserve that was burning out-of-control, authorities say. Forty acres were involved in the fire, which was reported at 3:37 p.m. Firefighters from the Department of Forestry, East Lake, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor and Safety Harbor were battling the blaze. No structures were reported endangered. The controlled burn was being run by Pinellas County. Check tampabay.com for updates.

See hot rod parade before ball game

Get revved up tonight for Car Night, a pre-game car show and parade around Dunedin Stadium from 5 to 6:30 p.m. before the Dunedin Blue Jays' game against the Fort Myers Miracle. Game time is 7 p.m. The Blue Jays are doing the pre-game festivities in association with the Florida Christian Hot Rod Association, which is providing the cars. Get early start on a fall festival booth

Vendors are needed to advertise their product or homemade articles at a community event scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 for North Bay Community Church's third annual Fall Fest. The church is at 3170 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. Parking space booth sizes are available for $20 outside and a limited number of 8-foot square spaces inside the church will be $35.
