Family files suit over death in head-on collision

The relatives of a Brooksville woman who died from injuries sustained in a July 2008 head-on collision filed a civil lawsuit Friday. The wreck occurred on State Road 50 near Richloam Clay Sink Road. Audrey McCabe, 80, was eastbound when she veered across the road and hit the SUV carrying Janet Todd-Arecco, 39. Both women later died at the hospital. Todd-Arecco's surviving relatives are suing McCabe's surviving family members.

SPRING HILL

Rally will promote peace and health

The Naturecoast Coalition for Peace and Justice will conduct an antiwar and national health promotion rally from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the new offices of U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, 16224 Spring Hill Drive, adjacent to the National Guard Armory, south of Brooksville. Signs, posters, buttons and flags will be part of the demonstration.

Remember the '50s? Be there or be square

The Spring Hill Community Association will host a '50s Sock Hop at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave. Music will be provided by DJ Marty the One Man Party. There will be contests and prizes for best 1950s attire, a dance contest, a Hula Hoop contest and more. Food and drinks will be available. Tickets are $5. Brooksville seeks top residents to honor

Brooksville is accepting nominations for this year's Great Brooksvillian, who will be honored during the Founders Week celebration in October. The annual program recognizes outstanding men and women who have made significant, positive contributions to the history, culture and/or economy of the community. A perpetual plaque that commemorates those honored each year is maintained at Brooksville City Hall, and an individual plaque is presented to the honoree and his or her family.
