Activists in Tierra Verde have won one battle in their effort to stop annexation from tearing their community apart.
Gov. Charlie Crist signed the so-called all or nothing bill last week. The law prevents piecemeal annexation of the island by requiring a municipality to annex the entire island or leave it alone.
The activists are still fighting a legal battle with St. Petersburg over the annexation of commercial land at the tip of the island, though the new law does not affect previous annexations.
