SPRING HILL

It could have been a simple traffic stop

Deputies stopped Cordell Cross on Monday for having a loud car stereo and no safety belt when they discovered that he also was driving without a license, a Hernando County Sheriff's report said. As they tried to arrest him, Cross punched the two deputies, the report said. They each shot him with Tasers, but Cross ran off, jumping fences and then driving off in his car. Cross, 22, led deputies on a chase through west Hernando before being stopped in Berkeley Manor. This time, a deputy's Taser dropped Cross, who was held without bail Tuesday on several charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
