Got some trashy fashion? Let's see it!

Celebrate Earth Day in style Tuesday at the city of Largo's first Trashy Fashion: Recycled Fashion Show beginning at 6 p.m. at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. The judged competition will feature recycled fashions crafted and modeled by area students and residents.

The event was created by the city's LargoRecycles division to instill an awareness of the importance of alternative waste solutions throughout the community and in tomorrow's leaders. To qualify for the competition, all fashions must be made from at least 75 percent recyclable or reused materials, not including vintage clothing. Prizes will range from $300 to gift cards.

Ticket proceeds will benefit the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce Education Fund. The fund provides scholarships to Largo High School seniors and P-TEC students as well as special programs, including the chamber's annual Salute to Education Luncheon recognizing outstanding Largo educators.

Cost to attend is $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Tickets are available at the Cultural Center Box Office or at the chamber of commerce, 151 Third Street, NW.

Watch a game, eat your fill at Community Night

Make it a staff party or family night out at the ballpark: the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber's annual "Largo Business & Community Night at Clearwater Threshers" will take place Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. at Bright House Networks Field, 601 Old Coachman Road, Clearwater.

It will be at the park's Hot Corner Cafe and feature a game between the Threshers and Sarasota Reds. Tickets are $16 a person and include the Hot Corner Cafe's all-you-can-eat menu featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, peanuts, chips, ice cream sandwiches, soft drinks, bottled water and $2 draft beers.

As a new feature, chamber-member civic and nonprofit organizations will be promoting their programs and services as part of the new "Quality of Life Showcase." Tickets are available at the chamber's 151 Third Street NW office or at Largo City Hall.

USF coach to speak at

mayor's prayer breakfast

The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber is a supporting sponsor of the 32nd Annual Mayor's Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on May 1 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. It will be at the Christian Life Enrichment Center at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1199 Highland Ave.

This year's guest speaker is USF head football coach Jim Leavitt, who started the USF Bulls program 11 seasons ago and saw his team crack the top 25 for the first time in 2007. It was a season of many records for the Bulls, including the fastest ascension from 1-A startup to the top 25 in NCAA history.

Largo Mayor Patricia S. Gerard will officiate over the morning's activities, which will include music and inspirational remarks by religious leaders of various faiths. Cost to attend is $10. Tickets are available at Largo City Hall and the chamber of commerce, 151 Third Street NW.
