County makes modest gains

in FCAT writing

Hernando County students saw modest gains on this year's Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test for writing. About 57 percent of county fourth-graders and 52 percent of eighth-graders passed the test, up 2 and 3 percentage points, respectively, from last year. Tenth-grade performance was unchanged, with 50 percent of students passing. Results at individual schools were mixed, with 10 schools improving, 10 declining and one unchanged. For details on school or student performance, visit the Florida Department of Education's Web site at fcat.fldoe.org. Thursday's results are the first in a series of releases by the department, with additional scores coming this spring in math, reading, science and school grades.
