The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce will launch the first of four seminars to be held this year on helping Hispanics start their own businesses. The chamber will host the events, held by the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund, or HBIF, in Spanish as an effort to nurture the area's booming Hispanic business population. The first seminar, on Thursday, will explore the elements of starting a business from 9 a.m. to noon; with HBIF counseling to follow from noon until 5 p.m. The seminar is free and takes place at the chamber at 330 Pauls Drive in Brandon. Aquatic Center offers water aerobics classes
Water aerobics classes are available at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center. The 45-minute classes start at 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and are open to adults of all ages and all fitness levels.
South Rotary Club best in four-county area
The Brandon South Rotary Club has been named the best in its four-county district. The district is composed of 45 clubs and more than 1,000 Rotarians. The South Brandon Rotary, chartered in 1991, historically has been the smallest club in the district. Less than two years ago, it had just six members. The club now has more than 15 members and kicked off a new fundraiser, the annual Mad Hatter's Tea Party, to facilitate yearly service projects including providing new socks and underwear for underprivileged children and Books for Troops.

78th Street Library closes for renovations
The 78th Street Library is closed for renovations until June 13.
In the meantime, no books will be due and customers who have items on hold can pick them up at the College Hill Library, 2607 E Martin Luther King Blvd.
Neighboring libraries include Brandon Regional at 619 Vonderburg Drive and Riverview at 10509 Riverview Drive.

Memorial Day events set at Serenity Meadows
Serenity Meadows holds its annual Memorial Day observance at 10 a.m. Monday at the cemetery, 6919 Providence Road in Riverview.
There will be a military guest speaker and honor guard, as well as representatives from each branch of the service.
A special flag pole will also be unveiled and there will be a rifle salute, wreath placement and a dove release. Refreshments will be served. Call 677-9494 for more information.
RUSKIN
Bayou Pass Village ready to build playground
Residents who have worked eight months to raise money for a new playground at Bayou Pass Village in Ruskin will see the fruits of their labor during a community "build-up" from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31.
Bayou Pass homeowners and volunteers will assemble and install slides, swings and other playground equipment.
The $30,000 playground was paid for with fundraisers and two matching grants from the Florida Home Partnership and Community Foundation of Sun City Center.
Bayou Pass Village is a planned community aimed at first-time homeowners with modest incomes. Families contribute 600 hours of "sweat equity" toward building their homes. Call 672-7860 or visit FLHOME.org for more information.

Church hosts 'Friday Night at the Movie' event
The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center will show The Ultimate Gift during its monthly "Friday Night at the Movie" event today at 6:30 p.m. in Creason Hall. The public is welcome and admission is free.
The movie is about a trust-fund child who, at the reading of his grandfather's will, receives a series of gifts — but with a catch. Light refreshments and popcorn will be served.
