Scrubbin' Da' Burg citywide cleanup is set
More than 850 TASCO Summer Teen Camp participants will volunteer to make St. Petersburg shine at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The seventh annual Scrubbin' Da' Burg citywide teen program includes more than 25 locations for cleanup and repair. Teens will spread across the community to paint houses, plant trees, clean shorelines, pick up trash, clean lockers, clear brush sites and do yard work.
After the cleanup project, participants will gather at the St. Petersburg Coliseum for an awards ceremony. The event will feature city officials at 1:30 p.m., a Scrubbin' Da' Burg slide show, an antiviolence presentation at 2:15 p.m. and a Youth Art Corps center competition and coach of the summer award at 3:15 p.m. For a site location schedule or for more information, call (727) 893-7813.

Forum looks at policies, shooting
The Uhuru Solidarity Movement will hold a forum Friday to discuss the economic and police policies that led to the death of 17-year-old Javon Dawson. Concerned citizens are invited to the meeting to hear a report from the Justice for Javon Dawson committee. The agenda will also include a slide presentation by Uhuru Solidarity leader Penny Hess and video clips from the Javon Dawson case.
