Jean Nicole Takacs walked into Silver Dollar Pawn at 5607 State Road 54 on July 28 with three guitars and an amplifier, a Pasco sheriff's report says. Takacs, 28, got $125 for the equipment, which had been stolen the previous week from Fellowship Baptist Church, located 3 miles away on 5940 Massachusetts Ave. One of the guitar owners from the church choir found the equipment last week at the pawn shop, and then contacted authorities. Pawn shop paperwork showed Takacs had pawned the items. Deputies arrested her Wednesday at her home at 6807 Porter Road, No. 2, on one charge of violating the Florida Pawnbroking Act. She told deputies that she had taken the items to the shop for someone else, the sheriff's report said. But Mike Long, the church's music director and owner of one of the stolen guitars, said Takacs had attended the church at least once before, filling out a visitor card at the end of the service. Takacs was released Wednesday on $5,000 bail.

Pizza run takes a tragic turn

Josh Hindman, Gabriel Fentua and Jessica Thomas went out late Wednesday night to get a pizza, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. When they drove back to Thomas' house, she fell asleep in the back seat of the car, the report said. Hindman and Fentua carried Thomas, 22, into her home at 6727 Sandra Drive, Port Richey, and placed her in her bed. A few hours later, about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Hindman noticed Thomas' face was blue and she was no longer breathing, the report said. Pasco paramedics pronounced Thomas dead about 20 minutes later, the report said. She died from overdosing on unspecified prescription pills, according to the report. A Sheriff's Office spokesman said Thursday that an investigation is ongoing.

Woman arrested in dog cruelty case

A 27-year-old Dade City woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with animal cruelty after Pasco sheriff's deputies said they found two emaciated dogs in her front yard. Deputies said Latosha Dennis kept two dogs chained to a tree without food or water. The animals appeared dehydrated and malnourished, according to the report, and were lying in their own waste. Dennis told deputies that the dogs had worms and "wasted water," the report said. Dennis was released early Thursday from the Land O'Lakes jail on $5,000 bail.
