Suzzane Jonas will be allowed to visit with her two granddaughters, who are in state care after their mother lost custody because of criminal troubles. But the children can't come to grandma's house in Lake Como nudist resort in Lutz, a judge ruled Wednesday. Circuit Judge Linda Babb said that because the girls are in state custody, visitations should occur outside the clothing-optional resort, said Erich Schuttauf, attorney for Jonas and executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation. "We are disappointed with that," Schuttauf said. "The grandmother has a good home to offer there, and this is a place that they have gone to since they were born." The girls, ages 3 and 5, are staying with a state-approved caregiver, he said.

Road project must end by Oct. 2010

County officials on Thursday gave developers 22 months to widen Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, three months longer than originally requested. Ben Harrill, attorney for developers of Seven Oaks, asked for the reprieve to cover weather delays. The project will start Dec. 1 and is supposed to be completed by October 2010. It will go on around the same time as work on State Road 54 and Interstate 75 and construction of the State Road 56 extension, making getting around in Wesley Chapel difficult for commuters.

School employees to picket meeting

Pasco teachers, noninstructional employees and their supporters are planning to picket outside and inside Tuesday's School Board meeting in what they're calling the "Do the Right Thing Rally." "They want to go on record in protest of the superintendent's recommended budget," which does not include raises, employees association president Lynne Webb said. "We want the School Board and superintendent to do the right thing by the employees of the Pasco school system." The organization began planning the event earlier this week, and also asked people to send letters to board members making clear their displeasure with the $1.2-billion spending plan. Board chairwoman Kathryn Starkey said she's received dozens of letters already. "I am saying (in response) I really wish we could give steps and raises, but unfortunately the state is in a budget crisis ... and there is no money available," Starkey said. The board is scheduled to adopt its 2008-09 budget at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
