The Hernando County Health Department has lifted the health advisory at Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Beach, 10800 Pine Island Drive. The recent advisory had been issued due to high levels of bacteria in the water. Test results indicate that the water quality is in the "good" range,

the Health Department reported Tuesday. For information, call Albert Gray at (352) 540-6802.

Areas will open

to hog hunting

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will hold a series of hog hunts on district lands to thin out the invasive animals. Prospective hunters can buy permits for $50 on the District's Web site at www.watermatters.org/hoghunts starting Oct. 13. A limited number of permits will be available through 5 p.m. Nov. 3 on a first-come, first-served basis. Maps also will be available online. Hunts will be open to permit holders only on the following properties:

Starkey Wilderness Preserve, Jan. 22-25 and March 3-6.

Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, Hampton Tract in Polk County, Feb. 10-13, Feb. 24-27, March 10-13 and March 24-27.

Upper Hillsborough, Alston Tract in Pasco County, Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 20-22.

Conner Preserve, Pasco County, Feb. 18-20.

Knights football tryouts coming up

Tryouts for Nature Coast Knights adult minor league football will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Arthur F. Engle Memorial Park, 11611 Denton Ave. The cost will be $40. All those trying out will be given a Knights T-shirt. All players must be at least 18, wear solid black shorts, bring cleats and running shoes. Those who do not have solid black shorts will not be allowed to try out. Boating classes are for passengers

The Hernando Beach U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will present Suddenly In Command from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the facility at 4340 Calienta St. This is a free class for boat passengers, including spouses, on what to do when there is an emergency onboard. Topics include safety, equipment, boating terms and use of a VHF radio. For information or to reserve a seat, call John at (352) 573-8155.

Correction

Cody Grey is not a member of the Hernando Heat U-18/19 competitive soccer team. Information in a story Tuesday was incorrect. Grey had been a member of the soccer team, which won the Division 1 Championship game for the Florida Region Cup and finished third in the state, but is no longer with the team, according to coach Phil Bennett.
