To vote on Nov. 4, You must Register by end of Monday

Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election. Hernando County residents can register at the Supervisor of Election's office, Room 165 at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Registration can also be done online at www.hernandovotes.com. Call the office at (352) 754-4125. Also, the Hernando County Young Democrats will conduct voter registration for all political parties from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in front of Sam's Club, 13360 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.

Golf tourney to aid Alzheimer's group

The Alzheimer's Family Organization's annual Hernando County Charity Golf Tournament will be Oct. 11 at the Heather Golf and Country Club, 7406 St. Andrews Blvd. A shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. The event will include a light breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A, a nine-hole round of golf and lunch by the country club. There will also be raffles and hole-in-one prizes. Tickets are $40 per golfer. For information or to sign up, call the Alzheimer's organization at (727) 848-8888 or toll-free at 1-888-496-8004.

cool that dogs rule

Bark Island returns this Saturday at Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Park, 10800 Pine Island Drive. Dogs and their owners are invited to the park from 8 to 10 a.m. The cost is $5 per car or walk-up patron. Those wishing to bring their dogs must provide proof of current vaccination records to enter the park. All dogs must be on leashes. The event will be on the first Saturday of each month through February. For information, call Hernando County Recreation at (352) 754-4031.

Correction

The Hernando County School Board has not reviewed or approved a revised charter school proposal by Mavericks in Education of Fort Lauderdale. A headline in Thursday's edition was unclear on this point.
