DADE CITY

Physician hurt in hit-and-run on St. Joe Road

A prominent Dade City doctor was the victim of a hit-and-run accident late Thursday that left him in Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. Dr. Michael I. Weiss, 41, an ob-gyn with an office in Dade City, was hit near the corner of St. Joe Road and 23rd Street about 8 p.m. Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Mickey C. Bearden was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. The FHP says Weiss was walking east along the shoulder of St. Joe Road when Bearden hit him. Bearden then kept driving to a Circle K store a few blocks away. He told troopers he thought he may have hit something, but wasn't sure and therefore didn't stop. After being arrested in connection with the hit-and-run, Bearden was also charged on an outstanding drug warrant from Georgia.
