Do you have nonperishables to share? The food pantry at the Salvation Army Center of Hope is low on staple items including baby food, canned vegetables, canned meat, soup, peanut butter, rice and pasta. Other dry foods needed include potatoes, rice, powdered milk, cereal and oatmeal. Park will close for renovations
Oelsner Park will be closed early next week while crews resurface the parking lot. The park at 5218 Miller Bayou Drive will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the renovations. City officials say the work should be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday. The park is scheduled to reopen Nov. 5.

Water shut off for some this morning
Water will be shut off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for residents along Cabrilla Court in Gulf Harbors while Lindrick Service Corp. crews replace a fire hydrant. Once the water comes back on, the utility urges those residents to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it until bacteriological tests show it is safe to use. A similar boil water notice for Lindrick customers in Gulf Harbors Woodlands, the Sea Forest subdivision and Green Key has been lifted now that tests show the water is safe to use.

Car catches fire, but no one hurt
The outside lane of Interstate 75, just north of State Road 52, was closed for about 2 1/2 hours Monday morning after a car caught on fire, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Brenda A. Perry, 19, of Huntsville, Ala., was driving her 1993 Toyota Camry north when she heard a loud sound and saw fire coming from her vehicle, FHP said. She stopped in the outside lane about 8:15 a.m. and got out as her car became engulfed in flames. The entire vehicle burned, but no one was injured. Pasco County Fire Rescue determined the fire was caused by a mechanical failure.
