Tax specialists offer program for seniors
AARP Hernando County Chapter 1026 invites area seniors a presentation at noon Thursday at Outback Steakhouse, 4905 Commercial Way. This is a duplicate of the presentation that was conducted in October to a full house. The speaker will be Shannon Gardner of Florida Tax Advisers. He will discuss various topics of concern to seniors. Also, Kera Evans, an elder law attorney, will address nursing home/Medicaid entitlement, as well as "durable power of attorney." Teddy bear picnic Friday at library
The Hernando County Public Library System will offer a teddy bear picnic for children ages 2 to 5 at 11 a.m. Friday at the West Hernando/Staffordene T. Foggia Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave. Children can bring their favorite teddy bears and a bag lunch. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. No registration is required. Next at book club: 'The Painted Drum'
The Brooksville Book Discussion Group will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave. The group will discuss The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich. Called upon to appraise the estate of a family in her small New Hampshire town, Faye Travers discovers a forgotten cache of valuable native American artifacts, including a rare drum decorated with symbols she does not recognize. Readers learn of the drum's passage, created by an Ojibwe mourning his young daughter's death, and how the drum changes the lives of those whose paths it crosses. Copies of the book are limited.
