Collision kills man, 79, injures another, 82

A 79-year-old man was killed and an 82-year-old man was critically injured Sunday morning when their vehicles collided on Howell Avenue in Brooksville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said Eldon Drier of Brooksville was heading north on Howell in his 1993 Buick when he lost control of the vehicle. Drier's car crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2005 Lincoln driven by Gustav Vossberg of Inverness. Vossberg's wife, Norma Vossberg, was a passenger in the Lincoln. Drier was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. Gustav Vossberg was taken to Tampa General in critical condition and Norma Vossberg was taken to Brooksville Regional with minor injuries.

Christmas concert aids autism group

The Hernando Hills Hi-Lites Chorus and D'Lites Quartet will present their Christmas with the Hi-Lites show at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd. The show will feature Christmas favorites and a parody, Twelve Days After Christmas. There will also be a surprise visit by Santa Claus and door prizes. After the show, visitors can meet the chorus and have a picture taken with Santa. The show is a fundraiser for the chorus. Tickets are $5. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local chapter of the Autism Society. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance by calling Tessie at (352) 686-4122 or Vicki at (727) 378-4788.

Angel decoration is event's highlight

The Spring Hill Community Association is organizing the eighth annual Angels on High celebration and invites area businesses, organizations, schools, churches and individuals to participate. The event will be Dec. 11-14 on the Lake House grounds, 1202 Kenlake Ave. Participants decorate an angel for the outdoor display and contest. There is no cost to enter an angel. Angel kits cost $40, or participants may use their own supplies. The event includes a tree-lighting each night, entertainment at the Palmwood Pavilion stage and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
