LARGO

Convenience store robbed by armed Santa

A clerk at the Sharp Turn convenience store may have thought she was getting an early visit from Santa Claus on Sunday afternoon — until the guy with the Santa beard, white sweatshirt and orange cap pulled a handgun on her and demanded cash. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the man escaped on foot, north of the store at Rosemary Lane and Indian Rocks Road.

DUNEDIN

City awarded for its excellence

Dunedin wins yet another accolade. The Florida League of Cities has named Dunedin the 2008 Florida City of Excellence. Other finalists from more than 400 cities were Clearwater, Orlando, Sunny Isles Beach, Winter Park and Hallandale Beach. The award recognizes the city government for its leadership, excellent services and innovative programs. City Attorney John Hubbard was also a finalist for City Attorney of the Year. Earlier in 2008, Dr. Beach chose Dunedin's Caladesi Island as the nation's No. 1 beach and Money Magazine named Dunedin one of the top six places to retire. "It's a testament to the hard work we've put into this," said Mayor Bob Hackworth. "It's not just me. It's city employees, citizen volunteers and all the leaders in our community."
