Antiwar group plans protest at intersection
Antiwar activists from the NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice will host a demonstration at noon today at Cortez Boulevard and Spring Hill Drive, in front of the Weeki Wachee Springs attraction. The demonstration is to protest against the Gaza invasion, the Iraq, Afghanistan and Darfur wars, the failing economy and other injustices, the group said.

Classes to be held on horticulture
The Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service will offer a free horticulture class, "A Bounty of Blooming Bulbs," at 10 a.m. today at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Another class, "Ridding Your Lawn and Landscape of Weeds," will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the extension office, 19490 Oliver St., Brooksville. Equestrian show seeks volunteers

Cattle Barons' Ball will be on Feb. 7
Hernando County's annual Cattle Barons' Ball to benefit the American Cancer Society will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court, Spring Hill. The Western party will feature entertainment and silent and live auctions. The goal of the event is to raise $60,000 to support Reaching Out to Cancer Kids. Music will be provided by Rebound. There will be silent and live auctions, as well as a variety of games. Cancer society partnerships and sponsorship opportunities are available. Event tickets are $100 per person.
