Stimulus funds training for growing jobs

The Pasco Hernando Workforce Board will offer a career training fair and expo at 8:30 a.m. today at Rasmussen College, 2127 Grand Blvd. Local selected schools will present training programs to workers who have lost their jobs. Participants can learn more about training programs and funding for occupations that are projected to grow over the next few years. Funding for these programs is available through the federal stimulus package. Occupational areas for training include health care, welding, auto service technology, electrical, corrections, law enforcement and business. Local training providers participating are Rasmussen College, Pasco-Hernando Community College, Pasco County School Board, Central Florida Institute and Kaiser Career College. Workers unable to attend are encouraged to visit a Career Central workforce center in their county to talk with a counselor. For directions to the nearest center, go to www.CareerCentral.jobs.

Habitat needs women volunteers

West Pasco Habitat for Humanity is looking for women who want to help build houses in the area. On Saturday, the organization will launch its first Women Build Day, where 53 women will help break ground on a home in New Port Richey for a family of six. While they have all the helpers they can handle for Saturday, Habitat officials are looking for women to help continue construction of the home, which will take about four months.
