PORT RICHEY — A 16-year-old bicyclist was critically injured Thursday afternoon after being hit by a car on U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
About 4:30 p.m., a school bus stopped in the northbound lane of U.S. 19, a half-mile north of Jasmine Boulevard, and activated its fold-out stop signs, FHP said. With other lanes of traffic coming to a stop, the bicyclist began crossing U.S. 19 going west.
A Ford Mustang failed to stop and collided with the bicyclist, FHP said.
The teen, whose name has not yet been released, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center and is in critical condition.
