Black History Month banquet in Brooksville will honor educator

Black history banquet will honor educator

Black History Month Productions will present the fourth annual Black History Month Recognition Banquet at 8 p.m. March 3 at the Lorenzo Hamilton Community Center at Kennedy Park, 899 Kennedy Blvd. The event is designed to celebrate and honor a black Hernando County native for accomplishments in his or her profession or for service to the community. This year's honoree is Brenda Joyce Wright Cason, the Hernando County school system's first black female assistant principal. Tickets are $15. Advertising is available in the banquet souvenir journal. Ad deadline is Monday. Call (352) 688-2861.

Registration ends next week for art festival

Vendors and artists are invited to participate in the 28th annual Art in the Park festival, which will be March 10 and 11 at Tom Varn Park, 306 Darby Lane. The event, presented by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council, will feature fine arts and crafts, a countywide student art exhibit, entertainment and historical re-enactors. Admission will be free, with a $1 parking donation requested. The cost for vendors to participate is $75; the registration deadline is Feb. 27. Visit the website at hernandoarts.org. Drysdale Street will close for upgrades

Hernando County Transportation Services has announced that Drysdale Street from Polk Avenue to Linden Drive will be closed from Feb. 27 through March 2 for drainage improvements. Traffic will be detoured via Polk Avenue and Coronado Drive to Linden Drive during construction. For additional information, contact Transportation Services at (352) 754-4062.
