BROOKSVILLE

Nominate a great Brooksvillian for founders week

The city of Brooksville is accepting nominations for this year's Great Brooksvillian, who will be honored at a ceremony during the Founders Week Celebration in October. The annual program recognizes individuals who have made significant positive contributions to the history, culture or economy of the community. Each year's honoree is presented with a plaque, and a perpetual plaque is maintained at City Hall. Nomination forms are available online at cityofbrooksville.us or at the city clerk's office at City Hall, 201 Howell Ave. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. June 17. Drag show tonight will benefit troops

Gifts from Home will present "Kings, Queens and Inbetweens — A Night of Glitz and Glam" at 7 p.m. today at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive. Doors open at 6 p.m. This is a professional drag show featuring queens Madam Diva Divine, Kamden Wells, Vanessa del Rey, Lady Janet, Alexis De La Mer and Sydney Taylor, and kings Swayde, Kane Cole, Jagger Blue and Devon James. The show includes lip syncing, illusion and "celebrity" appearances. Snacks will be served, and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $15 at the door. The show is a benefit for the Gifts from Home charity, which sends gift packages to military troops serving overseas. People who bring an item to send to the troops will receive a free ticket for a special drawing. For tickets, call (352) 684-4185.

Environmental health office's hours change

Hours for the Hernando County Health Department's environmental health office will change, effective Monday. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 4 p.m. weekdays. The change will not affect other Health Department service hours. The office is at the Health Department annex site, 15470 Flight Path Drive, south of Brooksville, in the Airport Industrial Park.
