Boat festival in October needs volunteers
The Clearwater Super Boat Offshore National Championship and Festival, scheduled for Oct. 2-4, is in need of volunteers to help with beverage and ticket sales. Water safety support volunteers are also needed. The helpers will work along the waterfront at Coachman Park and Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach. Chorus rehearsals start Tuesday
Rehearsals for the 2009-10 season of the Clearwater Chorus begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Murray Studio Theater at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. No auditions or experience are required and it's open to adults ages 19 and older. Rehearsals will be every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Ruth Eckerd Halls' Murray Studio Theater. Motorcycles cruise for Humane Society
Cruising for Critters, a poker run made up of more than 40 motorcycles, will be held on Oct. 3 to benefit the Humane Society of Pinellas. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with kickstands up at 9:30 a.m. The starting location is at Eve's Family Restaurant, 3150 Tampa Road. Stops include Captain Jack's Sunset Grill in Tarpon Springs, Danny's Food and Spirits and Fletchers Harley Davidson, both in Clearwater. The final stop, where participants will enjoy live entertainment from noon to 4 p.m., will be Quaker Steak and Lube, 10400 49th St. N, Clearwater. Cost ranges from $10 for a single score card to $50 for four score cards as well as two event T-shirts and pins, and 10 door prize tickets. Oldsmar
Course prepares kids for SAT, PSAT
Oldsmar is offering a course designed for students planning to take the SAT or PSAT. It helps students prepare for all sections of the SAT: critical reading, math and writing. Students will learn to recognize various problem types and develop specific strategies needed to answer them. Sessions are held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Cypress Forest Recreation Center, at 650 Pine Ave. N. Session II for the Nov. 7 test date runs Oct. 8-29; session III for the Dec. 5 date runs Nov. 5 through Dec. 3. The cost is $175 with an Oldsmar recreation card and $262.50 without one. Clarification
