Clearwater library: give food, forget fine

Published Dec. 3, 2015

CLEARWATER — The Clearwater Public Library system's Food for Fines program will run through Dec. 23. The program offers an amnesty period for overdue materials in exchange for donation of nonperishable foods.

Since its inception in 2012, the holiday program has netted tons of food and supplies for the Religious Community Services Food Bank, according to the city of Clearwater. Anyone who has fines due may bring canned goods or nonperishable food items to any library branch and present them at the circulation desk with the overdue materials. The staff will waive any fines due. However, the program does not apply to fees for lost or damaged materials. For information, call (727) 562-4970 or visit myclearwater.com/cpl.
