Greyhound Rescue plans event April 10

Fundraiser to benefit school music groups

Support fundraising efforts for the orchestras and choral groups of East Bay and Riverview high schools at 6:30 p.m. Saturday when the two groups hold a musical concert, Are you smarter than a first-grader? The event, which will also feature a quiz competition, will take place at the East Bay auditorium, 7710 Big Bend Road. Tickets are $5. For information, call (813) 951-6437.


Expectant mothers' event is today

Moms-to-be, your pampering awaits. It's not Mother's Day yet, but moms-to-be can still rejoice. Today, the Lorena Jaeb Rainbow Center at 102 N Palm Drive is doling out pampering with free massages, facials, manicures, food and more from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information will also be available on pregnancy health and community resources. Chamber hosts annual hog roast

Eat well at a hog roast, and support the Shriners Hospital for Children at the same time. On April 10, the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 10th annual Hog Roast and silent auction. Tickets are $20 and include live entertainment, beer and all the Lupton's barbecue you can eat. The event is also child-friendly with a special play area, inflatable rides and no charge for kids 12 and younger.

Candidates will take questions at forum

Interested in speaking to local politicians? Head over to the SouthShore Democratic Club's candidates forum on Thursday. Democratic candidates for Congress and Hillsborough County offices will be on hand to speak to residents and take questions.

Access for hearing impaired on agenda

The Hearing Loss Association of Sun City Center will host an open meeting Wednesday on legal and court accessibility for people with hearing loss. Judge Martha J. Cook, of the Hillsborough County Court, will speak and captioning will be provided. Stroke support group will meet Wednesday

The Sun City Stroke Support Group will hold its next meeting on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The group meets in the East/West room of Kings Point Clubhouse. Manners for children is workshop's focus

Do your kids need to learn a little bit about social etiquette? Sign them up for the free "Manners Do Matter" workshop at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library. For children ages 5 to 11, the two day, two-hour workshop will teach them the fundamentals of politeness including basic introductions, table manners and personal care. The first class meets Saturday at 2 p.m. The second class is April 10. The library is at 1906 Bloomingdale Ave. Call (813) 273-3652 to register.


Enjoy 'Peter Rabbit' with kids Monday

Enjoy a puppet show with your little one at Bloomingdale Regional Library on Monday. The classic tale of Peter Rabbit will come alive with this musical version.
