The father of Brittany Nation – a young woman who was killed along with Maria Cecilia Ramsey in an accident on Interstate 75 on Nov. 7 – will be hosting a tribute concert for his deceased daughter at the L.A. Hangout at 16411 N. Florida Ave. on Saturday in Lutz. Richard Nation's rock band, Jaded, will perform from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. There is no cover charge. The club's number is (813) 964-5631. Brittany Nation, 22, and Ramsey, 21, were coming home to central Pasco from watching a concert in Orlando when their car careened off the road around 2:30 a.m. that Friday. They died at the scene. Nation's services were at Loyless Funeral Home Tuesday, with burial at Mount Zion Cemetery on Wednesday in Dade City. Any donations should be sent to Loyless Funeral Home at 5310 Land O'Lakes Blvd. in Land O'Lakes. Ramsey's service is today — her 22nd birthday — at Grace Family Church in Lutz. Her burial will be in Maryland, where she and her family previously lived.

Swiftmud will do controlled burns

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will conduct controlled burns through January on its Upper Hillsborough property 1 mile east of Zephyrhills. Approximately 500 acres will be burned in small, manageable units as weather permits. According to district land manager Kevin W. Love, burns are implemented to mimic natural fire cycles under a controlled situation. The goal is to avoid uncontrolled wildfires and maintain the ecological and wildlife habitat values. Crews will make every effort to keep smoke from impacting homes and roadways, but drivers should use extra caution if smoke affects their visibility.

Actor's death calls off high school play

Because of the tragic death of student and performer Alessandra Augello, 17, in a car accident Monday evening, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic School's production of The Odd Couple, which was scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled. A memorial service for 19-year-old Alyssa Dyer, the other girl who died Monday's crash, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Prevatt Funeral Home, 7709 State Road 52, Hudson.
