Golf team needed for fundraiser

A golf tournament will be held Saturday at Triple S Golf Ranch, 17751 U.S. 301, to raise money for Marco Martinez, who needs $6,000 for an operation to remove a tumor from his spine. Last month the Times featured the plight of Martinez, 35, who is a husband and father of four. A native of Mexico, Martinez recently earned his U.S. work permit and has been taking on all the work he can to save up for his surgery. Various community groups have pitched in with fundraisers. Organizers need at least one more golf team in order to have enough participants for Saturday's tournament. The event starts with registration at 8 a.m., shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost for a four-person team is $160 and includes golf cart, prizes and dinner. There will also be a corn toss tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge, $25 per team; and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. For information, call Martinez's wife, Sonya Slover, at (352) 999-0162; or call the golf course at (352) 567-6622.
