Youth fashion design class needs supplies
Ignite Youth Inc. and the Kiwanis Club of the Nature Coast are in need of fabric and sewing supplies, as well as new and used sewing machines. The machines and supplies will be used in an upcoming fashion design course for middle school and high school youth being offered in partnership with the Hernando County Recreation Department. Benefit raffle for $800 quilt is July 4
Tickets are available for a quilt raffle to benefit Lea's Prayers and Postage. The quilt, worth $800, was handcrafted at the Foothills Crafts Shop in Manchester, Tenn. Donated by Maggie Beck, the quilt has never been used and is kept in a Sterilite container. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be on Wednesday. Reading program for kids is fun, free
Behind the Stone Ministries and Communities in Schools of Hernando County offer the "Reading is Fun" summer youth program from 5 to 5:30 p.m. each Thursday, through Aug. 9, at New Song Worship Center, 6001 Deltona Blvd. Volunteers will read to children and provide them with books to take home or exchange each week. Agency seeks help in helping others
People Helping People of Hernando is seeking volunteers and donations to assist with its various programs. The all-volunteer, nonprofit interfaith group offers the following programs: Sunday Blessings serves free meals to people in need and provides free clothing, groceries, bread and desserts, transportation assistance and referrals to other help organizations. Weekend Blessings provides food throughout the school year on weekends to children from needy families in the county. Senior Blessings supports a local food pantry and provides supplemental groceries to poverty-level seniors living in a subsidized housing in Brooksville. Football and cheer program signups
Saturday is the last day to sign up for the West Hernando Cougars youth football and cheerleading program. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Delta Woods Park, 3400 Deltona Blvd. The program is open to children ages 5 to 15. The cost for either football or cheerleading is $195, and includes a football uniform with name and number or cheerleading uniform top, skirt, bloomers and shoes.
