Donations needed for homeless event

DONATE ITEMS FOR HOMELESS EVENT: Agencies in Hernando County that offer services for the homeless and those in danger of becoming homeless are collecting items for an upcoming outreach event.

The community is asked to donate nonperishable food in cans with pop-top lids, drink boxes, bottled water, trail mix and peanut butter; toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, combs, hand sanitizer, deodorant, shaving cream and razors, shower gel and feminine hygiene products; dog food; reading glasses; gift cards; old cell phones (for 911 service); bug repellent; sunscreen; bandages; flashlights; batteries; underwear; socks; winter jackets, and diapers.

Donations will be collected through Thursday. Items may be dropped off at any these sites: Florida Department of Juvenile Justice office in Brooksville; Jericho Road thrift stores in Brooksville, Ridge Manor West and Spring Hill; the New Beginnings Youth Shelter in Brooksville; the Rising Sun Cafe (for Love Your Neighbor) in Brooksville; the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Spring Hill; Mid-Florida Community Services in Brooksville and Spring Hill, and any Hernando County public library branch.
