'Writers in the Preserve': USF St. Petersburg associate professor of English Thomas Hallock has organized three days of public readings and discussions at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve focusing on the theme "How Do We Find Nature in the City?" On Feb. 21, Hallock joins Tampa Bay Times writer Jeff Klinkenberg; journalist Cathy Salustri, a USFSP Florida Studies graduate; and Wendy Joan Biddlecombe of Hernando Today/Tampa Tribune. They will read from their nonfiction works. On March 28, poets Gianmarc Manzione, Gloria Muñoz and Brian Duncan will lead a poetry night hike through the preserve. Chili Cookoff: The Grand Central District Association will host its annual Chili Cookoff from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 in the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Central Avenue. There will be music, food vendors and arts and crafts. Admission is free; chili tasting tickets cost $15 in advance, $20 at the event.
