FDA approves DNA alternative to Pap smear

DNA alternative to Pap Smear okayed

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a genetic test as a first-choice screening option for cervical cancer. Thursday's decision means Roche can market its cobas HPV test to detect the human Papillomavirus, or HPV, in women 25 and up as a first-choice option for cervical cancer screening, ahead of the Pap smear. HPV causes nearly all cases of cervical cancer.
