BROOKSVILLE

County offering swine flu vaccines

The Hernando County Health Department will have a free swine flu vaccine clinic for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St. There will be 750 doses to be distributed first-come, first-served. Most doses will be in the injectable form. The intranasal mist, which contains a weakened, live form of the virus, also will be available. Priority will be given to high-risk groups that include pregnant women, individuals age 6 months through 24 years; individuals 25 to 64 who have compromised immune systems or other chronic medical conditions; health care workers who have direct patient contact; and people who care for infants 6 months of age and younger. Tickets for vaccinations will be distributed starting at 8 a.m. The tickets are numbered and include time slots, so residents can wait for the vaccination or return at the appointment time. One person can pick up tickets for family members. For more information, call (352) 540-6817.
