Friends of the Poor Walk is Oct. 20 in Spring Hill

the annual Friends of the Poor 5k AND events ARE Oct. 20

St. Vincent de Paul's fifth annual Friends of the Poor Walk is 9 a.m. Oct. 20 on the grounds of St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way. Participants will collect pledges for the 5K walk. Registration is free, and all walkers receive a free event T-shirt. Corporate or school teams, as well as family groups and individuals, are welcome. Proceeds will be used to assist needy families with rent, utilities, food, clothing and other items. The event will also include a silent auction, bake sale and a Corporate Village for sponsors. Auditions are this weekend for 'Gypsy'

Auditions for the musical Gypsy are 1 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd. Parts are available for men ages 18 to 60, boys ages 9 to 12, women ages 18 to 60 and girls ages 9 to 12. One male, between age 18 and 25, must have tap experience. Auditions will consist of song, dance and reading from the script. Accompaniment will be provided; no CDs or a cappella singing allowed. Women who audition for the role of Mama Rose should be prepared to sing Some People or Everything's Coming Up Roses. Production dates are weekends, Jan. 10 to 20. VFW breast cancer fundraiser is Sunday

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 9236 hosts a breast cancer fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the post, 3435 Shoal Line Blvd. Dinner will be available for $6, and there will be a raffle. Call the post at (352) 596-9236.
