Girl, 15, dies after swimming laps in Zephyrhills pool

ZEPHYRHILLS - A 15-year-old girl was doing laps in the Lake Bernadette community pool Tuesday afternoon when she drowned, said Kevin Doll, Pasco sheriff's spokesman.

The girl, who friends said was named Valeria, was going to be a sophomore at Zephyrhills High School in the fall.

Around 2:54 p.m., the girl was swimming with about 15 other kids, said Dan Nesselt, manager of the community center. Someone spotted her at the bottom of the pool, pulled her out, and tried CPR, Doll said. No lifeguard works at the pool, Doll said.

She was pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. "I was shocked and upset to hear about it, said Nesselt.
