The Pasco County Health Department will host a Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 8014 State Road 52 in Hudson. A free lunch and learn seminar on heart health is scheduled for noon Thursday at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, 1395 S Pinellas Ave., Tarpon Springs. Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders, a program of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, will be at the CARES Elfers Center, 4136 Barker Drive in Elfers, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 17 and Dec. 15. SHINE counselors will provide guidance on Medicare, health insurance, prescriptions and long-term care. Bring medications list and questions and individual advice will be available. Complimentary ear wax removal, by St. John's Hearing Institute and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clinic, will be available from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at the center in the Coffee Shop in the annex. The Volunteer Team at Pasco Regional Medical Center in Dade City is accepting applications for volunteers in the gift shop and the emergency department. Prospective volunteers may choose from a variety of positions to support the gift shop, while emergency department volunteer support serves as a liaison between nursing staff and the patient's family members. The Center for Independence announces a new transportation initiative for disabled adults. Funded by the DOT New Freedom program, the center offers wheelchair accessible vans linking east and west Pasco bus lines. In addition, the center offers on-demand transportation evenings and on weekends especially geared toward employment. Disabled adults must register with the center and receive a picture ID. Gulfside Regional Hospice has formed a grief support group in Dade City. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers several support group meetings for family and friends of those with mental illness and consumers (those with mental illness). This includes all brain disorders, including but not limited to obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and multiple personalities. The Alzheimer's Family Organization has a program to assist caregivers of dementia and Alzheimer's disease patients.
