PHSC to offer Lifelong Learning courses

Pasco-Hernando State College, in partnership with Ed2Go, is offering instructor-led Lifelong Learning courses online, starting Nov. 9. The six-week programs begin each month. Students receive instruction and the opportunity to interact with fellow participants in an online classroom format. Computer-related classes include: Introduction to Windows 10, Introduction to Digital Scrapbooking, and Understanding the Cloud. Healthy living courses include: Start Your Own Edible Garden; Luscious, Low-Fat, Lightning-Quick Meals; and Lose Weight and Keep it Off. Language courses include: Discover Sign Language, Speed Spanish and Instant Italian. Personal development classes include: Assisting Aging Parents, Genealogy Basics, Music Made Easy, and Write Your Life Story. Travel courses include: Travel Photography for the Digital Photographer and Travel Writing. All classes are $104, except for the Introduction to Windows, which is $118. AARP offers safe driving classes

AARP Driver Safety Program classes are available at various locations. The cost for each six-hour course is $15 for AARP members (bring membership card) and $20 for nonmembers. These classes are scheduled in November:

Hernando Symphony seeks musicians

The Hernando Symphony Orchestra has openings in the following sections: violin, viola, cello, oboe, bassoon, French horn and percussion. An audition is required and must be scheduled in advance with the conductor. Auditions will consist of a short prepared piece and some sight reading. Harmonizers to host annual show

The Hernando Harmonizers will have their annual "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" show at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at Northcliffe Baptist Church, 10515 Northcliffe Blvd. The show will feature the quartet Ciao Bella, along with singer, entertainer and emcee John Timpanelli. Agriculture expo will open Oct. 28 at airport

The annual Florida Agriculture and Wildlife Expo will be Oct. 28 to 30 at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport on Runway Drive, south of Brooksville. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 30. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and younger. New this year will be a farmers market each day. Other highlights include livestock events, a barbecue cook-off, a car show, a rescue dog show and costume contest, rides, games, food and daily entertainment. Sponsors sought for comedy fundraiser

Crescent Community Clinic is offering sponsorship opportunities for its upcoming comedy show fundraiser, "The 'Nearly' Real Housewives of Hernando County." Performances will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 4, 2017 at the Vineyard Christian Church, 375 S Broad St., Brooksville, and at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Towne Square Mall, 3021 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. The show was written by playwright, Jerry Cowling and directed by Vince Vanni. The show will feature the talents of Patricia Augustyniak, Valerie Ciaccio, Carla Hayes, Barbara Manuel, Sandra Roth and Richard Sanvenero Jr. Sponsorship levels range from $100 to $2,500. Tours set for water reclamation facility

The Hernando County Utilities Department has announced that the Airport Water Reclamation Facility expansion at 1400 Downwind Way is complete. A ribbon-cutting will take place at noon Friday. Those attending may then tour the facility. The two-year construction project expanded and modernized the facility, increasing its wastewater treatment capacity from 1.25 million of gallons a day to 3.5 million gallons. The facility is equipped with new electrical and mechanical equipment utilizing remote monitoring and controls. For information, call (352) 540-6780.

Powell Middle schedules fall festival

The Powell Middle School Student Council will host a fall festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school, 4100 Barclay Ave. The event is open to the public. Registration open for grant workshop

Grant writer Barbara Sweinberg will offer a grant-writing workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Towne Square Mall, 3021 Commercial Way. The cost is $50 per person and includes handouts. Festival will benefit outreach ministry

The Canterbury Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2301 Deltona Blvd. The free event, which will benefit the church's outreach ministry, will feature local vendors, artisans and community partners, along with baked goods, crafts, vintage and costume jewelry, food, a raffle, a silent auction, Christmas and holiday items, a book sale, a children's buying area and a white elephant sale. Event will help older drivers stay safe

CarFit, a national education program created by AARP, AAA and the American Occupational Therapy Association, will help older drivers stay safe on the road during a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 in the parking lot of Atria Evergreen Woods, 7030 Evergreen Woods Trail. Event benefits Cystic Fibrosis Society

The annual Cystic Fibrosis Fall Fun(d)Raiser Benefit Concert, sponsored by the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department, 4 Corners Pharmacy, AME International and Brown & Brown Insurance, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave. Gate opens at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free; parking is $5. The event will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Society and Team Maddison Rae. It will include craft exhibitors, as well as food, beer and wine vendors, games and other activities. Entertainment will include the Black Swans, the Terry Cole Band, the Shadow Ridge Band and the headline group, the U.S. Stones, a Rolling Stones tribute band. Bring chairs, blankets or towels; sunscreen and bug spray are suggested. No coolers or outside food or drinks will be permitted. Sheriff seeking traffic aide volunteers

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is seeking volunteers living in the Spring Hill area who are interested in volunteering for the sheriff's traffic aides team. The team's mission is to provide traffic control at motor vehicle crash scenes or near structure fires. When needed, aides may also support emergency operations, such as when wires are down or a traffic signal malfunctions. Volunteers must pass a background check, including fingerprints.
