Family Fun Day for vets, families

Museums need volunteer workers
The Hernando Historical Museum Association is recruiting volunteers who can donate three hours a week to work at the May-Stringer House, 601 Museum Court; the 1885 Railroad Depot Museum, 70 Russell St., or the Countryman One-Room Schoolhouse Museum, 66 Russell St. No experience is necessary. Pasta Fest needs items for door prizes
Door prizes — gift certificates, gift baskets, event tickets and similar items — are needed for the 34th annual Pasta Fest, to be held 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 6 at Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant, 6244 Spring Lake Highway. The event will feature all-you-can-eat spaghetti for 99 cents, entertainment, games, horse-drawn Sicilian cart rides, concessions for the kids, face painting and other activities. Learn about rain barrels at plant sale
People may sign up for the rain barrel workshop that will take place during the Master Gardener Fall Plant Sale on Oct. 10 at 19490 Oliver St. To attend the workshop, participants must pre-register and send payment of $68 to HCUD, 21030 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34601. Please write "Rain Barrel Workshop Oct. 10" on the envelope. No walk-up attendees will be permitted. Hernando County Utilities customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time credit on their water bill for $25. Oktoberfest dance tickets available
Tickets are on sale for the German-American Club of Spring Hill's Oktoberfest dance Oct. 9 at the Hernando County Shrine Club, 13400 Montour St., west of Brooksville.Doors open at 4 p.m. Dress code is Trachten/club casual; no shorts or jeans allowed. Music will be provided by Manni Daum and Son. Food — leberkase, bratwurst, potato salad, sauerkraut and rolls — will be served from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., with dancing from 6 to 10 p.m. Bring your own beverages. National Night Out scheduled Oct. 3
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office annual National Night Out will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Target parking lot at 3101 Aerial Way. The family-friendly event will include free food, activities, games, entertainment, samples and demonstrations. There also will be giveaways and more than 60 agencies, businesses and organizations.
