BRAIN BOWL SPONSORS NEEDED: The Rotary Club of Spring Hill is seeking sponsors for the 20th annual Rotary of Spring Hill/Kevin Coit Middle School Brain Bowl, which will be March 31 at Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics.
Sponsorships help provide T-shirts, door prizes, awards and a pizza lunch for the students and their families.

VETERANS BENEFITS FAIR: U.S. Rep. Rich Nugent will host the annual Hernando County Veterans Benefits Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 3 in the cafeteria at Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics, 13400 Elgin Blvd., Spring Hill.
The fair will provide veterans with information about veterans claims services, education benefits, employment services, housing/social services, medical services and other available services.
There will also be entertainment, including the Hernando Harmonizers, the Chocachatti Dancers Theater and American Idol contestant Curtis Gray. The award-winning Navy JROTC Drill Team from Central High School will perform. The Lance Cpl. Brian R. Buesing Young Marines will present the colors and sell food and refreshments. Also, the Springstead High School Air Force JROTC will conduct a rifle team performance.

HAIKU PROGRAM: The Hernando County Public Library System will offer a simple introduction to the art of Japanese haiku poetry from 10 a.m. to noon March 7 at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill.
The program will include guidelines to follow in practicing this small form of poetry, as well as time for group discussion and some creative writing.
The program will again be offered from 10 a.m. to noon March 22 at the West Hernando/S.T. Foggia Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave.

ART IN THE PARK: The 28th annual Art in the Park art, craft and music festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 10 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 11 at Tom Varn Park, 306 Darby Lane, Brooksville.
The event, presented by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council, will feature fine arts and crafts from around the state, a countywide student art exhibit, a free Kids Art Activity Zone, continuous entertainment and historical re-enactors.

CONCERT BENEFITS PLANNED FOR VFW: The following fundraising concerts are planned at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive:
• The Country Clay Kirk Variety Show and Friends will entertain March 3. Doors open at 4 p.m. A baked ziti dinner will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the show. Along with Kirk, the show features singers Arthur Haywood, Mikey B., Morgin Nicole, Danielle Pacifico and Velvet Leonard. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door. Proceeds from both events will go toward the replacement of the VFW's air-conditioning units, which were destroyed by thieves on New Year's Day, as well as for installation of a security system.
UNITED COMMUNITIES MEETING: The United Communities of Hernando County will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Silverthorn Community Center, 4400 Mallard Lake Drive, Spring Hill.
This will be a public forum open to all county residents. Elizabeth Townsend from the Supervisor of Elections Office will give a presentation. A question-and-answer session will follow.
