commission seeks plumber to fill vacancy

The Hernando County Commission is accepting applications from plumbing contractors interested in filling an unexpired term on the Hernando County Board of Construction and Regulation. The volunteer board performs the duties of a board of adjustment and appeals, and acts as a countywide compliance review board. Those interested must be Hernando County residents and voters. Application forms are available in the county administrator's office, Hernando County Government Center, Room 263, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, or at hernandocounty.us/bocc/committees.htm. Completed applications must be submitted to the county administrator's office no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 3. For information, call (352) 754-4002.

Peace coalition to hold antiwar rally

The NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice of West Central Florida will host an antiwar demonstration from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Commercial Way and Cortez Boulevard. For information, call (352) 686-9936.

Artists' reception at Rising Sun Cafe

The Spring Hill Art League will cohost a reception for local artists Diane Becker and Joyce Sundheim from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25 at the Rising Sun Cafe, 10 S Main St. Refreshments will be served. Becker's oil paintings and Sundheim's "Tiers of Joy" garden art and platters will be on exhibit at the cafe during July and August. For information, call Grace Ashcraft at (352) 556-3984.

Bridge Club hosts 'Friendship Day'

The Nature Coast Bridge Club will host a "Friendship Day" game at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Towne Square Mall, 3021 Commercial Way. HPH Hospice offers volunteer training

HPH Hospice is recruiting volunteers. A two-part orientation will be provided from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14 and 16 at the Sturgill Hospice Care Center, 12242 Cortez Blvd. Lunch will be provided. Numerous volunteer opportunities are available, including patient support. Volunteers may donate as little as four hours every other week, or more as their schedules allow. There is no cost for the orientation, but registration is required. Attendance both days is mandatory. For information or to reserve a seat, call Jacque Lambert at (352) 796-2611.
